Profile

Richard joined the Open University in December 2006 as a Senior Lecturer during which time his primary focus was the production of Youth Justice modules. Richard  was of the Head of the Department of Health and Social Care between October 2010 to 2011.  Before arriving at the OU Richard  taught at the the University of Birmingham  (1999-2001) and was Assistant Director of The Rainer Foundation, a national children's charity between 1987 -1996.

Current Research Projects

Richard supervises three PhD students in the following subject areas :

1 An evaluation of Strengthening Communities and Strengthening Families

2 The application of children's rights to street children in Bulawayo

3 Parenting and Grandparenting in the context of penal custody.

In 2012 Richard is undertaking research into the experience of  girls and young women in the youth justice system.
